Strike Cleaning

With the SAG strike showing little sign of being resolved soon, this quiet period is a great time to do some Spring.. uh, or rather… “Strike Cleaning” on your profile.

A strike is no excuse to let your profile get dusty. Many productions are still filming and when this strike breaks, we will be sending your photos to many more productions immediately. Be prepared.

Delete any old photos.

Pics showing off nice wardrobe options are fine to sit on the shelf for a bit longer than others, but any selfies, side profiles, uploads for specific briefs etc. from before 2023 have outlived their usefulness.

Remove any duplicate photos, dark or blurry pics. Any pics uploaded in the wrong orientation and any pics of yourself wearing sunglasses, hats or otherwise obscuring your face and hair are already useless for casting purposes. Productions need to see you as clearly as possible. And remember, you only need to have one full length photo for each wardrobe option.

Having too many photos on your profile slows bookers down. Maintain a healthy stock of no more than a dozen photos that gets refreshed throughout the year.

Check your measurements.

Of course you should fill out every measurement as best you can (especially if you want to be considered for Doubling and Stand-in roles!). But some measurements are so important that if you haven’t filled them out properly, you are simply not being considered for the majority of roles.

For women, these “key” measurements are Height, Bust, Waist, Hips, Dress and Shoe.
Head, Collar, Bra & Cup will be essential for period costumes.

For men, these key measurements are Height, Chest, Waist, Trouser Waist, Inside Leg and Shoe.
Head, Collar and Sleeve will be essential for period costumes.

Check and re-measure yourself! Don’t hesitate to ask a friend or family member to help you.

Update your Bio Box.

The Bio Box found under the “Casting Information” tab of your profile is the best place to list your credits, your industry experience, your skills and talents, your acting and performance qualifications, links to your website and showreels etc.

Crowd 2nds love to know a little more about who they’re hiring, and this bio box is a great tool for our bookers when they’re finding experienced SAs for more featured roles.

Check your DBS is still valid.

A DBS Certificate isn’t compulsory, but we do handle a few productions a year that require all Supporting Artistes to have a valid DBS uploaded to their profile - in British Film & TV, a Basic Disclosure certificate remains valid for 18 months from the date of issue.

You can obtain a DBS certificate through the government website. They cost £18 and take about two weeks to arrive through the post.

If you use the DBS Update service, uploading a screenshot of your online DBS portal will suffice. You will need to supply a new screenshot every 18 months.

Take new Current Look photos.

  • Main/Face photos are great for first impressions and professional headshots.

  • Current Look photos are the ones to keep updated with recent selfies.

When you take new photos, please take a FULL SET for the Current Look tags:

⚠️✨“Current Look: Full Length”✨⚠️ A ¾ length, front-facing photo of yourself (from the knees up!) taken in a well-lit space. Stand in a neutral pose and wear neutral clothing. DON’T FORGET THIS ONE!! You NEED to have a full length pic on your profile, Crowd 2nds often won’t book an artiste without one.

“Current Look: Front”: A front-facing close-up (shoulders up) with your expression, wardrobe and make-up neutral, and your hair down naturally so productions have a great idea of what you look like.

“Current Look: Side”: A side-profile close-up (shoulders up) with your expression, wardrobe and make-up neutral, and your hair down naturally so productions have a great idea of what length and style your hair currently is.

“Current Look: Back”: A rear-facing close-up (shoulders up) of the back of your head with your hair down naturally so productions have a great idea of what length and style your hair currently is.

Notice the date of upload at the bottom of each picture - the older the photo, the less productions trust them. These ones are too old! Hair & Make-Up Departments don’t like photos older than 3 months!
