The developers at Entertainment Partners have fixed old code that was preventing artists from changing their “Main” and “Face” pictures on their Extra People profile.
Previously, once you assigned a photo to either of these two slots, the picture would become locked until one of our team unlocked it for you.
We are pleased to announce that this is now no longer the case!
You will have the freedom over which photo is the headline image on your profile while we can spend more time doing the important work that actually gets our supporting artistes booked on set!
What is the best sort of picture to go into these slots?
These photos are great for first impressions. They’re often the first image bookers see when they find your profile, so think Professional Headshots, your favourite selfie or simply your most everyday look - whatever photos you think play to your strengths for casting purposes.
“Current Look” photos are still your most important photo category on your profile; they’re the photos that most often get sent to productions. When we ask for updated photos, Current Look is the category we’re referring to. These should be uploaded as a complete set (Full Length, Front, Side & Back).
“Main”/”Face” photos can sit on your profile longer than your “Current Look” photos.
“Current Look” pics are the ones to keep updated with recent selfies around once every 8 weeks or when your look significantly different after a haircut/restyle. Hair & Make-up artists don’t trust photos older than 3 months - the date of upload is visible on each photo sent to productions.
The moment your “Main”/”Face” photos no longer offer an accurate reflection of what you look like, be sure to update them. Remember, these are for first impressions, they should still be honest and accurate.
The rules for good photographs still apply:
No sunglasses, hats, masks or scarves obscuring your face and hair.
No Black & White filters or any other photo-editing such as FaceTune or SnapChat cartoons.
Photograph in a well-lit environment; soft daylight works better than harsh sunlight - we don’t want to see you squinting or with sharp shadows cast over your features.
Stand close to the camera and be well-framed with not too much headspace above you.
No group photos - we’re not going to bother playing Guess-Who.
Try to keep your expression, wardrobe and make-up fairly neutral.
A plain background will always be better than noisy environments or a cluttered bedroom. You don’t need to delete and replace your background entirely - as long as the background isn’t distracting then the photo is suitable. Productions can be suspicious of photos that look edited. Another certain agency may want photos of yourself standing in the void, we don’t.
What about prescription glasses?
If you are unable to safely walk around without your glasses or are unable to wear contact lenses, then wear your prescription glasses in your pictures. This lets productions know that your glasses are non-negotiable on the day. If you can get by easily enough on set without your prescription glasses, then we recommend you don’t wear them in your photos since they could limit your castability, especially for period productions.
What about wigs?
We need to have a really good idea of what you look like most of the time.
If you wear a wig each day, we recommend that you photograph yourself wearing it for your Current Look photos.
If you decide to be wigged for your Current Look photos, make sure there is at least a few pictures on your profile of yourself without a wig.
If you alternate between wigs, weaves, extensions and braids, you need to update your Current Look photos each time there is a change. This should be a full set of Current Look photos (Full Length, Front, Side & Back).
Please be aware that wigs make you harder to cast for period productions, since they have more demanding and complex hair briefs. While you’ll probably be fine for modern-day roles, period productions will want to customise your look for their purposes. They don’t want to be surprised to find your natural hair is wildly different than is photographed and you wouldn’t want your wig to be damaged by styling products not meant for synthetic wigs.
If it is unclear on your profile what your current hairstyle is, our bookers will be unlikely to suggest you. That's why the full set of Current Look photos (Full Length, Front, Side & Back) need to be consistent and taken at the same time.
The safest option is to photograph yourself with your natural hair so productions have a great idea of what you look like and what length and style your hair currently is.
Finally - make sure ALL your photos are uploaded in the correct orientation! Our bookers won’t bother cracking their necks to see if you’re appropriate for the role - they’ll just move onto the next person.
