Digi-Fittings Explained

A Digi-Fitting is a fitting you can do at home.

A fancy new term which may sound more complex than it actually is!

For a digi-fitting, instead of going to the studios or a production’s base for an in-person fitting, you will be emailed a wardrobe brief and asked to upload a few photos of yourself wearing your clothing options to your profile or send them in an email.

Digi-Fittings enable productions to fit artists in a shorter timeframe as well as save them money.

For the artist, Digi-Fittings provide greater flexibility to fit at a time that suits them, at any point in a window that usually spans a few days.

You will be paid a CAT A supplement (£21.74) which will be added onto the chit of your first filming day on that production. Whilst not yet ratified in the PACT/FAA agreement, we as an agency encourage productions to pay CAT A for Digi-Fittings.

Digi-Fitting Etiquette

Firstly, decent photos are essential.

We’re not expecting professional photos; your smartphone will be enough. But Digi-Fittings need to be full-length - we need to be able to see your clearly from head to toe.

Always ensure that your pictures are not blurry, dark or edited; production needs to see you as clearly as possible, so ensure that you’re not standing too far from the camera.

Mirror selfies aren’t recommended because your phone is a big rectangular block that obscures your costume and to put it bluntly - not everyone has clean mirrors.

If you have no friend or family member to help you take pictures, we encourage you to prop your phone up and place a countdown timer on the camera. Like Self-Tapes, Digi-Fittings become so much easier if you own a phone tripod or ring light. This is a small business expense that’s arguably an essential tool in an SA’s arsenal. Your Full-Length photos will improve overnight.

Some artists think that taking photos of just the clothes themselves is enough. You must be wearing the outfits - Costume need to see how they look on you.

There will only ever be 1 x CAT A supplement up for grabs, so getting it right the first time is essential. In some cases, production would sooner replace you than trust you to go again on the Digi-Fittings.

Please upload the photos in the correct destination as instructed.

Usually you’ll need to upload three different options to specific Photo Categories on your profile, such as “Project 1”, “Project 2” and “Project 3”.

We’ve had instances of artists being released because they uploaded their photos to the wrong photo categories, the wrong profile or attached the pictures at the bottom of an email chain.

If your photos are not where we expect them, we likely won’t have the time to go looking for them.

Equally, we won’t enjoy chasing you beyond the Digi-Fitting deadline. If we sense that you’re dragging your feet, you’ll likely be released and replaced.

If you’re ever stumped by the Costume Brief, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification. Bear in mind that we would never expect you to buy new items to fulfil a brief. We expect you to use what you already have in your wardrobe to match the brief as close as possible. Simply use your initiative to match the brief as best you can with what you have.

We’ve noticed that a few artists have attempted to recycle old photos on their profile instead of taking new photos for their latest digi-fitting. These artists have been exposed due to timestamps on each photo and their costume clearly not matching the brief they’ve been given.

Digi-Fittings are well-paid for what they are; most costume briefs are simple enough to demand much less than an hour’s labour. And as Digi-Fittings become more common, artists will only become more efficient at completing them.

Digi-Fittings are only suitable for roles in which your own clothing will be used.

Even then, not all productions will do them since their implementation is dependent on several factors, including the budget, the demands of the scene and the preferences of the Costume Supervisor .

In-person fittings will still very much be the norm for the majority of roles. As such, you should not assume that a production will be able to Digi-Fit you if your availability for an ordinary fitting changes.

We will likely warn you in the first Availability Enquiry for the role that a Digi-Fitting will be required. Please wait for the costume brief and only complete the Digi-Fitting AFTER you’ve been booked. At Extra People, your booking will never be conditional on you completing the digi-fitting first.

Similarly, you shouldn't expect to be owed a fee every time you upload a photo of yourself wearing an outfit to your profile. To earn the CAT A supplement, you must have been directly told to complete a Digi-Fitting for the role.

We’ve confirmed with FAA that the rules around DigiFittings will be clarified in the next Agreement. This includes protections to ensure artists are compensated for their Digi-Fitting efforts even if they are released before their first filming date.
