How to improve your chances of getting booked

The photos you upload to your profile are the most important tool at your disposal.

When you put yourself down as available for roles, your photos will be sent in ‘Lookbooks’ to several departments at production, including Hair & Make-Up, Costume, the Crowd team and sometimes even the Director. 

There are 4 photo slots that get shown to our team and productions more than any others.

The “Current Look” photos

Getting these photos right is essential.

See below for a guide to what makes a good photo and what does not.

We realise not every photo will look the same - but a bit of effort and guidance can be the difference between a booking and a release.

Usually, bad photos are a product of laziness.

We get it - it's far easier to mine your photo gallery for old pics than take new ones. But these older photos are rarely taken with casting in mind and so they're often unhelpful and unprofessional.

The photos we send to productions reflect the booker’s casting eye and so ultimately Extra People’s quality of service. As such, some artists’ photos are so poor that we don’t put those profiles forward for work at all.

Some artists edit out the background of their photos entirely - you needn't bother. Often this makes the photos look unnatural and overly edited. We at Extra People don't mind if there's a door frame or a light switch in the background - the agencies that do are short-sighted in our opinion. Please just ensure the background isn’t obtrusive or distracting.

Similarly, please don't add a background blur effect or vignette to your photos. Unedited photos will always look better. Some productions are wary of anything that looks edited.

We simply want the natural you in a natural setting - but with a bit of thought behind it.

What about Professional Headshots?

You don't need to have to professional headshots for Supporting Artiste work - simple passport-style selfies will do.

However, if you have Professional Headshots, they’re better suited for the “Main” & “Face” slots. Main and Face photos are great for first impressions.

But your “Current Look” photos are always your most important photo category - they're the photos most often sent to productions since they want to see you what you look like naturally and recently. Professional headshots look great but may not be representative of what you look like today. As such, we’re more likely to send your Current Look photos over instead.

You should have a full set of Current Look photos uploaded onto your profile (Full Length, Front, Side & Back).

When we ask for updated photos, Current Look is the category we’re talking about.

These photos should be updated around once every 2-3 months.

Your photos have the date-of-upload visible in the lookbooks that we send to productions and Hair & Make-Up departments don’t like photos older than 3 months.
